Thankful Layout - Gypsy & DS hybrid

My latest layout, Thankful, is yet another design for Thanksgiving. I have four scrapbooks that require pages for every family event/holiday - a page for each child's book and one for my book. I use similar photos for each layout, but I mix up the layouts to keep the scrapping fresh.

This layout is going into my book - because I am thankful for each of the people who will be featured on this layout!!! Also, I really like how this layout looks.

The layout was created using both DS and Gypsy. I cut the fabulous double layer leaves using the Gypsy's Gypsy Wanderings cartridge. The remaining elements were cut using DS. I used DS because I had already designed the title and squares in DS. I added the leaves to complete the layout.

Don't hate me because I'm BOO-tiful!

October has to be my favorite cookie decorating time of year.

The pumpkins, the candy corns, the spider webs...oh my!

These cookies are some of my favorites...sassy little spiderwebs in bright pink and orange. No special cookie cutter required, any size round cutter will do.

Here's how to make them:
  • Outline a spiderweb shape in black royal icing using a #2 or #3 tip (AmeriColor Super Black).
  • Thin black, pink and orange icings with water to the consistency of thick syrup (AmeriColor Deep Pink and Orange). Cover with a damp dishtowel and let sit several minutes.
  • Stir gently with a rubber spatula to pop any air bubbles that have formed on top. Transfer thinned icings to squeeze bottles.
  • Working 6 - 8 cookies at a time, fill in the outlines in black, using a toothpick to spread into corners.
  • On top of the wet black icing, pipe on the thinned pink and orange icings in alternating circles.
  • Drag a toothpick through the icing, starting at the middle, towards the points to make a spiderweb pattern.
  • Let dry at least one hour.
  • Using piping consistency (non-thinned) icing , pipe spiders on the webs using a large plain tip for the bodies (such as a #7 or #12) and a #1 or #2 for the eight legs.
  • Let dry overnight.

A Couple of Gypsy Cards

I found a few minutes last Friday night to further explore and play with my Gypsy. I needed a couple of birthday cards to have on hand just in case they were needed (it was my husband's birthday and I suspected that the kids might forget to grab cards).

I love the cupcake cuts in Gypsy Wanderings, both the solo cupcake and the border. I thought they might make a cute card. I used the Happy Birthday cut from the same cartridge.
The second card used the owl from Gypsy Wanderings as well as letters from Gypsy Font.

Both of these cards were simple as I made them in a bit of a hurry, but both came out cuter than the photos show.

Another kitchen must-have. . .Works For Me Wednesday

Do you own an offset spatula?

For years, I ignored cookbooks and cooking shows recommending offset spatulas.

"Why do I need one of those when I have a table knife?"

Well, it turns out, they were right, I was wrong. Something about that little offset spatula makes life so much easier...

whether it's icing a cupcake....

spreading dough for caramel brownies....

or smoothing a layer of cheesecake.

Mine is considered a mini, I think. About 4.5 inches and perfect.

They're not expensive, either. Treat yourself! You deserve one! :) It certainly works for me.

Twinkle Toes - Papertake Weekly challenge

Hi everyone! It's Tuesday, and that means it's time for a new Papertake Weekly challenge. This week, the challenge is a sketch and is sponsored by Kathe, distributor for The Angel Company. This is the first time I've used any of their images, but I have fallen in love. Isn't she the sweetest? The card base is Bazzil cardstock and the DP is Basic Grey Lemonade. I added lots of machine stitching too. The image is colored with my Copic markers.

So please be sure and pop over to Papertake Weekly and take a peek at the fabulous creations from the other designers! I promise you will NOT be sorry. They are all so talented. And then grab your paper and glue and join in the fun. Maybe you'll get lucky and win a prize from Kathe!

Thanks for stopping in to see me today, and hope to see you back again soon! HUGS!
